BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan -- Two former convicts, who were released from prison last year through the good conduct time allowance (GCTA), surrendered to police here on Sunday.
Lt. Col. Marceliano Desamito Jr., officer-in-charge of Bayambang Police Station, said the two ex-convicts served 30 years in prison since October 1988 for robbery with rape and homicide charges.

Desamito said since they are now under the police’s custody, their requests for urgent personal matters are relayed to the Philippine National Police headquarters before these are granted.
“One of them underwent an operation, and today (Sept.10) that person needs to go to the hospital to remove the surgical bandage, so we need to take him/her to the hospital. They are now our responsibility,” he said.
Desamito added the two ex-convicts chose to surrender to the police following the order of President Rodrigo Duterte for prisoners released through a law that reduces an inmate’s sentence due to good conduct since 2014 to be sent back to prison.
“We are not sure how many of those convicts are residents of Bayambang, but we encourage them if there are still some who reside here to do the same as these two who surrendered to us,” he said. (PNA)
