MANILA -- Nineteen values important among Filipinos will be the highlight of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts' (NCCA) first teleserye (soap opera), "Project Destination".
In an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Tuesday, NCCA deputy executive director Marichu Tellano said the teleserye is a product of two years of research for values.
During those two years, the NCCA, she said, held focus group discussions with various sectors, such as the indigenous people, the academe, businessmen, among others. They were asked what is/are important for them as a Filipino.
"We came up with about 160 values from those discussions. We had to trim that down and came up with 19. We compiled values that are related or mean the same things, because, remember, the discussions were conducted in different dialects," she explained.
Among the most common values are the love for family and giving importance to education, she said during the teleserye's launch at NCCA's office in Intramuros.
Tellano said NCCA allotted PHP14 million for this. "Project Destination" has something to do with the values and customs that the main character Andre (played by Migo Adecer), would discover along his way back home.

At the launch, Tellano noted that the NCCA does not want to just come up with a list of values. "We cannot go around the country to lecture about values. The kids won't listen," she said.
Coming up with a teleserye is NCCA's solution to entice the audience, Tellano added.
"Project Destination" also stars Kate Valdez and Royce Cabrera. Former child star, Aiza "Ice" Seguerra sang its theme song.
This would run for six episodes and would air every Saturday at 5:45 p.m. on GMA News TV beginning March 14. (PNA)
